What’s so great about it?
Fresh salmon is an excellent source of vitamin B12, vitamin D, and selenium. It is a good source of niacin, omega-3 fatty acids, protein, phosphorus, and vitamin B6. It is also a good source of choline, pantothenic acid, biotin, and potassium. Im going to concentrate on the beneficial omega-3 though.
The omega-3 oils can help with weight loss, asthma, cancer, lung diseases, hay fever, Crohn’s disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, miscarriage, preeclampsia, preterm labor, and intrauterine growth retardation.
A diet high in salmon could reduce the symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dyslexia, and dyspraxia as DHA has a huge effect on brain function.
It’s also an excellent source of protein, and is used to repair the breakdown of muscle tissue we cause during exercise, as well as being helpful for building muscle in those looking to achieve an increase in lean tissue in sport or health.
How do you use it?
Salmon cooked right is a dream! The problem is most people butcher it!
We have a couple of staple recipes you can find in our other blogs and food videos but the favourite is EC’s Almond crusted Salmon, check out the recipe on our instagram feed @Priority6
How much does it cost?
Make friends with a fishmonger and it won’t cost you a lot. We ALWAYS buy our fish in bulk, it drives the cost down so much. Go into Tesco and buy it and it usually tastes like a bland sock, go to a fishmonger and ask for their good stuff and the flavour is stunning!
